New Week
Arghhh...I'm suffering from blues again. It's very quiet today. Ann is working from home again. That's why I'm saying, this place is so ********.Rule 1: Bosses are always right.Rule 2: If bosses are wrong, please refer to Rule 1.Do I have a choice? Please forgive me. I'm relieving my frustrations. These stories were written during my free time. Enjoy...***Life at Work!***Darkness always terrifies me. I realised that life at work was somehow stressful. I looked at my own reflection in the mirror. It looked unfamiliar. The radiant on my face was gone and all I could see was an old haggard look. I looked up the small window above, realising it was already dark. For the past few years, I had not been working for such long hours. Guess what? Suddenly, chills ran down my spine. My heart missed a beat. I walked out of the toilet as fast as my legs could carry me. I searched for the key which could unlock the door to the library. I found it. I walked towards my working desk steadily. My pale face gave me away. My colleague, Ah Lin was looking at me while I put the key back in the drawer. I took a glance at the clock. It was already nine o'clock. Rumours spread...there were ghosts lurking in the toilet at night. All of the sudden, Ah Lin called out my name loud and I got a fright. I gave her an assurance that everything was fine. Recovering from the fright I had a moment ago, I sat down and continued with my work.Case 1 -- Ah Lin, IT Officer
Ah Lin sits beside me. She is a cheerful gal. She is talented in such a way -- good in comic drawings. Somehow, she has brightened up my days by introducing new games and gossips forum. The silence irritated my ears. I looked at the clock. It was already half past nine. At this moment, I heard noise from my manager's room. A well-dressed woman came out from the room. She stopped beside my desk and started a conversation.Case 2 -- Anne, Manager
Anne is a workaholic. She spends most of her time at work.
Anne is a fair person who does not mix personal affairs with work. She understands her employees' needs and this makes her a good superior. Somehow, she is some big shot who cannot trifle with. We chatted about our daily lives. Ah Lin joined in the conversation. Laughter broke the silence. I felt at ease.Another colleague of mine, Pauline came. She passed some documents to Anne. Both of them entered the room.Case 3 -- Pauline, Purchasing OfficerNicknamed "Sotong", Pauline is easily to get along with. Though she looks like an "Aunty" but she is young at heart. Her favourite past time is gossiping (a way to relieve stress???). She is nice person after all.I was about to finish my work when my handphone rang. It was my hubby. I told him I could claim my transport fares. As such, he did not ferry me home. I hung up the phone. I stretched my arms to relax my muscles. "Finally! It's done.", exclaimed Ah Lin. She had just completed the blog for Angel's daughter.Case 4 -- Angel, Associate Executive
Angel joined us not long ago. She is friendly as she always wears a smile on her face. She has the communication skills. That makes her customer-oriented.We were about to leave. I looked at the clock. It was already half past ten. I thanked God that the next day was Saturday. I could sleep the whole morning the next day.Pauline was still in Anne's room. Ah Lin and I decided to wait for Pauline. Looking worn-out, I said, "Hey, the two executives got very good life huh!". Ah Lin nodded and agreed.Case 5 -- Mickey, Executive
Mickey joined us not long ago. Unlike the previous executive, Leonard, Mickey is hardworking and responsible. Somehow, he still could not commit his time to work. Sigh! Case 6 -- Ah Seow, Executive
Ah Seow likes to smile a lot. She is a friendly person. Everyone thinks that she resembles "Liang Zhiqiang, the comedian". Somehow I gave her a nickname, Taiji Master. Do you know why? Make a guess. In addition, I think she is a nag. Except Anne, I think no one could stop her from nagging.Ah Lin, Pauline and I shared a cab home. There was a silence in the beginning. Soon, Pauline broke the ice, "Aiya! You all know hor…Ameline is taking leave again. I have to work OT liao.".Case 7 -- Ameline, Admin Officer
Ameline is a generous person. She treats us chocolates, titbits, etc. I think she is a nice person. Somehow, she is the Ah Seow’s disciple. So, what type of person do you think she could be?Written on 23 Mar 05*Original names have been changed to protect the individuals.***Stranded***Darkness always terrifies me. I was on a deserted and scary-looking island. Dark clouds came over the moon in a shape of a werewolf. Suddenly, lightning flashed across the sky, followed by a thunder. I was startled by the loud noise.Soon, a curtain of rain fell down from the heaven. I took a shelter in a dilapidated house. "Oh God! I am stranded. Please help me." I prayed frantically. The weather was dreadful as it was raining cats and dogs. The shadows of the trees frightened me. Chills ran down my spine. I closed my eyes to avoid any horrible sights. Minutes slipped by mercilessly. However, a minute seemed like an hour as I shivered in cold. The rain stopped. I decided to scour the island. I walked along the beach. There was a light breeze after the storm. I looked across the horizon. The sea was calm. I stood still, hoping to see a ray of hope. However, there was not a single soul. I walked through the bushes. I could hardly see the surroundings. The moonlight could hardly penetrate through the thick canopy of the trees. Suddenly, I heard footsteps. "Was that my imagination?" I thought. Before I could come to a conclusion, I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. I listened to my heartbeat. I knew I was in fear. I was exhausted from the frantic escape. I was trying to recover my breath when something hard hit on my neck. I fell into unconscious soon.I could hardly open my eyes. The surroundings looked familiar. The sunlight penetrated through the curtain of my bedroom’s windows. Tears trickled down my cheeks. I was relieved. That was only a nightmare.Written on 24 Mar 05
